Today my good friend Jason came out to help me ride and video Kasino. I pieced together some different parts of this video and put it on Kasino's website and Facebook page. As I was watching the video and putting together the parts I wanted to share, it was easy to get hyper-critical of the video.
Kasino is not ready to show. Let's just get that out in the open. Abscesses sidelined him last summer, and the weather this winter has made a mockery of my attempts at any sort of normal training schedule. I'm working all of this into a positive and reminding myself that he should be strong and healthy when it's time to get down and dirty and start the hard stuff. But in the meantime, I still want to share what we are doing with everyone.
The people's horse?
I want Kasino to be the people's horse. If we are lucky enough to solicit the attention of outside mare owners one day, I want them to know him from the start, or at least be able to research and get to know him. The videos from today are not perfect. Sometimes the jog is out of cadence, sometimes the lope is quick, and absolutely none of it is slow nor steady. But this is a perfectly acceptable place for him to be right now. He's doing well, I'm proud of him, and I want anyone who's interested to be able to see it.
There are tons of people in the horse industry just like me. I've met many of them. I know they exist. People who want to know the real horse behind the big trainers and Photoshopped ads and fancy saddles. Those are the people I want to share Kasino with. If you like him now, halfway trained with crooked leg wraps and his mane blowing in the breeze...well just wait!
If you have thoughts on sharing anything other than perfect, finished videos of stallion prospects, I'd love to hear them! Please comment below.
